The Indian Institute of Packaging
The Indian Institute of Packaging IIP was registered as a society in 1966. The institute has its head quarters in Mumbai and principal testing abd development laboratories in Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai.

The institute is known for having gathered expertise in various packaging technology and imparting it through the various training programmes namely

  • Certificate Programme In Packaging
  • Post Graduate. (P.G.) 2 Years Diploma In Packaging
  • 18 Months' Distance Education Programme In Packaging Technology
  • Intensive Training Course On Packaging (Itc)
The institute has been successfully catering to various needs of the packaging machinery industry for both, the machinery users and manufacturers.

The organisation provides consultancy by means of

  • Advisory Visits - for on the spot studies aimed at diagnosing problem areas,
  • Package Development Service - for the development of cost effective development of packages and packaging techniques
  • Market And Economic Survey - to assess industry status and future potential.
  • Techno-Economic Feasibility Projects - to assist entrepreneurs on packaging related ventures.
IIP publishes journals, periodicals and directories and holds exhibitions on the packaging industries.


The World Packaging Organization (Wpo)
The World Packaging Organization is a non- profit, non-governmental, international organization of national packaging institutes, regional packaging federations and other related individuals, corporations and trade associations. It was established in 1968 with a purpose to

  • Encourage the development of packaging technology
  • Encourage the development of international trade
  • Stimulate education and training in packaging.
Its primary activities include
  • To promote education through meetings, publications and other activities
  • Sponsor international packaging design awards
  • Facilitate contact between various packaging institutes, industry and associations

The World Packaging Organization (Wpo)
The association was formed in 1987 and grew rapidly over the following years. In 1989 it merged with the UK manufacturers association, PEMA. Currently the PPMA has over 330 member companies who are responsible for the majority of machines sold in the UK each year. The PPMA is a founder member of the Confederation of Packaging Machinery Associations, the world's major machinery manufacturing nations.

The Confederation provides a forum for discussion on matters of world-wide concern to the industry, and recommends initiative where global perspective, or action, is required. The PMMI in America are the current secretariat and can be contacted through their web site. www.pmmi.org

Key objectives of PPMA are
  • Provide members with an effective marketing support service to promote the sales of machinery both in the UK and overseas through shows and exhibitions, interactive directory, machinery update sand PPMA directory
  • Provide members and the customers with timely, accurate and highly relevant technical support through training programmes, seminars, consultancy etc.
  • Representing the interests of members and their customers with government, legislators and other relevant industry bodies.
  • Raise the status and professionalism of members and develop the recognition of the importance of the machinery supply sector within the many industries served by members.
